In a state with fast horses and fast skiers, linking the two and racing around a track seems only natural.

Skijoring season is in full swing in the West. At Lincoln, Montana, on Jan. 22, the skiers caught air and ate snow, kids sledded on the hillside, and people sat around fires burning in snowy pits.

Top skijorers race at about top galloping speed, but even novice skiers can take a shot if they can round up a horse and rider.
